Dr Hoole qualified in medicine with distinction from University of Oxford, and subsequently trained in cardiology in London and Cambridge. He was appointed as a consultant interventional cardiologist in September 2011 and currently holds a national clinical excellence Silver award.
He has published over 160 peer reviewed manuscripts, several books/ book chapters and is an affiliated Associate Professor at the University of Cambridge. He is a specialist adviser to MHRA interventional device program, NICE interventional procedures program and the NIHR HTA program. He is an Expert Adviser for the NICE Centre for Guidelines and previous guideline Chair.
He has participated in guideline and position paper publications for the ESC, ACC, AHA and NICE. Dr Hoole is currently appointed as a NICE TA and HST Appeal panel member and is the GIRFT Cardiology joint national lead at NHS England. He is regularly asked to act as a medicolegal expert and has an efficient and busy private practice.
Dr Hoole is happy to see adult self-funding or insured private patients with any cardiological problem but he has a specialist interest in relieving patients of angina and in particular, performing complex coronary intervention and stenting via the wrist artery. This includes the treatment of chronic total occlusions, left main, bifurcation and heavily calcified lesions with calcium modification techniques including laser. He is an expert on stent safety and improving stent outcomes by utilising coronary physiology and advanced coronary imaging.
He specialises in treating refractory angina and leads the regional coronary sinus reducer and coronary microvascular angina services. He is also the national interventional lead for the UK balloon pulmonary angioplasty service.
