Cardiovascular Screening

Increasingly we are able to look for, diagnose and effectively treat medical diseases even before they cause a problem. This is especially true for heart disease, which is very common and often presents dramatically with a heart attack or even sudden death. At the Cambridge Heart Clinic we offer cardiovascular screening, a programme of screening apparently healthy people for the risk of developing heart disease and early signs of heart disease. Our cardiovascular screening programme identifies each person’s individual cardiovascular risk and provides tailored information of how to reduce these risks. Each person attending the Cambridge Heart Clinic for cardiovascular screening will receive a consultation with a Cardiologist, a cardiac nurse specialist and a cardiac specialist dietician.

Anybody can develop heart disease but particular groups of people are more likely to develop heart problems and therefore these people benefit most from screening.

Examples include:
Smokers, people with diabetes, people with a family history of heart problems or sudden death, people with high blood pressure or high cholesterol, and special groups like those with even mild kidney disease or rheumatoid arthritis.

Sometimes we are asked to perform screening tests as part of a routine work-related medical assessment or for mortgage or life insurance purposes.

What tests can I expect?
Our cardiovascular screening programme is performed over two visits to the Cambridge Heart Clinic. During the first visit you will have the following tests performed:
